Frequently Asked Questions

Please reach us at collierfarmsllc@gmail.com if you cannot find an answer to your question.

Collier Gardens Design started out as Collier Farms in 2021 as a local micro-farm in Firestone, CO bringing locally grown tomato and pepper seedlings.

Since then, we’ve embarked on a bigger journey to grow a community that can learn, teach, and share the love of gardening.

We are a family that loves to learn about where our food comes from, how to be more sustainable, and find ways to bring our community together.

A garden consultation is a personalized, interactive walk-through of your outdoor space where we assess:

  • Sun, shade, and microclimates
  • Soil conditions and existing plants
  • Your goals for kitchen, herb, fruit, or native gardens
  • Any challenges (weeds, water flow, pests)

You’ll walk away with recommendations on what’s possible and next steps — with clarity, not overwhelm. This sets the foundation for any garden planning or coaching that follows.

Consultation is the planning and learning stage — understanding your space and goals.

Garden coaching happens over time — as we work alongside you season after season.

With garden coaching, you get:

  • Regular guidance in your actual beds
  • Hands-on instruction in planting, pruning, watering, and harvesting
  • Practical answers to your questions as your garden grows

Instead of doing the work for you, we help you get better at doing it with us. Teaching you how to grow food you’ll actually eat is central to what we do.

No. We don’t provide lawn mowing, edging, or turf maintenance.

No lawn maintenance—just gardens.

Our work is intentionally focused on garden beds, edible gardens, and native plant spaces. By specializing, we’re able to give plants the attention, care, and knowledge they actually need to thrive.

Our services are ideal for:

  • New and aspiring gardeners
  • Families who want children involved in gardening
  • People turning unused garden beds into edible or native spaces
  • Homeowners overwhelmed by choices or unsure where to start

Gardening is more rewarding when it’s a shared family activity — and our approach brings all ages together with purpose, confidence, and joy.

Yes! We offer design plans you can use independently or with our coaching:

  • Plant selection maps
  • Bed layout and sequencing
  • Soil and amendment notes
  • Seasonal to-dos and timelines

Whether you choose to implement yourself or with ongoing support, you’ll have a roadmap built specifically for your space.

We focus exclusively on:

  • Kitchen and edible gardens
  • Salad gardens and herb gardens
  • Native and pollinator gardens
  • Flower beds with purpose and seasonal interest

We focus on garden beds, not turf, and we design and care for them with both beauty and function in mind.

Both—and that’s what makes our service different.

We believe the best gardens are collaborative. During our visits, we offer hands-on guidance and simple explanations so you feel confident caring for your garden between visits.

Teaching you how to grow food you’ll actually eat is central to what we do.

Traditional landscaping often prioritizes appearance over ecology—large lawns, heavy chemical use, and high water demands.

Because we do something different — and intentionally so:

  • No lawn maintenance — just gardens
  • We focus on garden beds, not turf
  • Colorado-friendly, practical gardening support
  • Education-first services that empower you

Gardens flourish when they’re understood. We avoid cookie-cutter landscaping that prioritizes lawn or ornament over ecology and function. Instead, we create spaces that feed your family, welcome pollinators, improve soil health, and reflect nature’s rhythms — not suppress them.

Yes—always when possible.

We prioritize:

  • Organic soil-building methods
  • Compost and natural amendments
  • Hand weeding and mechanical control
  • Plant choices suited to Colorado’s climate

We avoid synthetic chemicals whenever possible and aim to work with nature, not against it.

Absolutely—and we believe it should be.

Our gardens blend elegance, beauty, and function, creating spaces that:

  • Look intentional and inviting
  • Produce food, herbs, or habitat
  • Change gracefully with the seasons

A garden doesn’t have to choose between aesthetics and purpose—it can offer both.

Not at all. We work with:

  • Small backyard beds
  • Raised garden beds
  • Side yards and sunny corners
  • Deck or patio space only
  • Existing flower beds being converted to edible or native gardens

If it’s a garden bed, we can help.

We offer:

  • One-time garden sessions
  • Seasonal garden resets
  • Ongoing monthly or bi-monthly care

We’ll recommend what makes the most sense for your space and goals.

Start with a Garden Consultation — it’s the first step to aligning your garden with your goals. This will help us understand your space, goals, and experience level. From there, we’ll recommend a service plan that fits your garden and lifestyle.

After that, we’ll recommend whether ongoing coaching, a custom design plan, or a hybrid approach makes the most sense for your space and lifestyle.
